I agree on the absolute fantastic gain of using a P3..
even if you don't have one!!

I have LP-PAN and PSDR-IF for my K3... (so its my "P3 with SVGA") and like
previous List commenters I fell
in love with the ability to scan the band for activity and see sigs I might
pounce on given
strength etc.
Lately I have found I have been looking for those faint almost undetectable
(practically in the visual noise) blips
and dropping onto them to see if they are DX not yet being trounced by Calif
KWs or maybe a valiant QRP station. Either way.

It also almost makes me keen on doing contesting in my own sad way... ADD
suffer that I am! I at least can work up the band and down blip by blip and see
what my city-lot compromised for size and placement antenna can do. Don't tell
the Die Hard for Points 160m guys I ran ~20 watts power in the Stew Perry
contest and and will again in the CQ 160m contest at the end of the month! Not
going to get DX with my antenna given its lobe patterns and bad ground system
etc but if am working Calif and environs, I am happy.

Sometimes I feel I should be apologetic for this new fancy way, which is not
all the new really, but I do a lot of back-yard ops and small jaunts from home
in the good WX the olde-fashioned way of just tuning up and down that balances
it out.
