In theory yes. But there can be a lot of signals in the IF and if you struggling to get a weak one out then the RX is better with a narrow filter. I don’t know the math behind this or the electronic design details but I can tell its better by my decodes after I added the filter.

It is the same reason that last year at Dayton after a discussion with Wayne I also purchased a 200hz filter.

Hmm, wouldn't the DSP filter be good enough for this purpose?
Except for obnoxious PACTOR, there are generally not the 40db over S9
signals to reject.
