That provides about 180 kHz BFO band span.  That's what I've used for 12 years
in my K1.

The K1 uses no encoders.  The VFO tuning control is simply a ten-turn
100 kOhm potentiometer.

Nor is it standard even now!

This is an **extremely** valuable option that is a real pain to back fit
into a K1 whose front panel PCB has been completed with the old unlit display.

Elecraft does a disservice to K1 purchasers by not making the backlit LCD
standard, even at a price escalation for the K1.  Yes...it's that important.
