Ken, i use a push up mast from Spiderbeam from Germany for exactly the application you have and it works a treat. They are not cheap though.
There are two sizes and mine is the longer one of the two. It is now several years old, has been exposed to the elements for a many weeks at a time and has not failed. Being that it is tapered, I don't use the two uppermost sections and I removed them by sliding them out the bottom.
