Matt,
The other thing unique to the Hakko tips is that they seemed to me to
be less tolerant of sponges for cleaning. Hakko makes a little
cleaning thingy that I had much better luck with using than the
sponge that came with some of their units. It uses metal that looks
like a Scrubber pad, but is an alloy that keeps the tips
happy. There was a thread on this, and I think Tom Hammond has some
info on his web site about it:
