This may not always be the same, Jim. My first XV144 transverter had steel top and bottom covers, but in later XV--- transverters they were made of aluminium. The type of material used could have something to do with availability, cost, weight or strength. Unless Elecraft state otherwise, it may not be wise to assume that they always use the same type of material.
