The advantage of the present s-meter display is that you have a visual indication for adjusting the RF gain level to the noise level. I'm not sure that is a huge advantage as everyone probably fine adjusts the RF gain by ear anyway.
I do often find myself momentarily turning up the RF gain to see the indicated level of a weaker signal. (Please, no lectures about RST and s-meters: the K3 has an accurate s-meter that can measure the signal level at the antenna input. Some of us like knowing what that level is in absolute terms.) So, yeah, I also would like to have the option to use the non-variable s-meter. 73, Drew AF2Z On Mon, 04 Mar 2013 05:15:43 -0800, you wrote: >I noticed Ten Tec has changed the operation of the s-meter on the Eagle, Omni >7, and the Orion 2. > >The meter now does not deflect to the right when the RF gain is turned down, >but continues to operate normally giving readings of weaker signals. > >Someone explained to me one time there was a reason for having the s-meter >configured to deflect to the right when the RF gain is turned back, but in my >mind I would like to see the RF gain ride the signals instead of deflecting. > >What do you think? > >Toby W4CAK >______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
