Yes this hobby is a bit harder to explain to people than some, they have a hard time understanding the satisfaction that comes from it. My son is one of those that thinks it's crazy to sit at the radio waiting for days or even a couple of weeks to try and work a DXpedition. Or trying to fix an old radio that has tubes in it and will not work as well as the ones I have 8>)
