Thanks for all the replies. I am testing using the KX3 with the amp and tuner to see if it would work without a key line. It seemed to me that the amp should be able to rf sense the key down state. But I noticed that after the tuner tuned the signal was attenuated and the amp had the *. Of course the signal was attenuated because the amp was in transmit. I just had never notice the * in transmit before.
