Nice bit of nostalgia! The only thing that didn't ring "true" but understandably changed for the film was a lack of heterodynes on top of the signals on 20 meter 'phone. Back in those days when A.M. was the "standard" and SSB was just getting a toe-hold among Hams, the phone bands often sounded like a dozen different audio oscillators were being broadcast all at once on top of the signals when several A.M. stations moved in close to each other so their carriers produced beat notes in the audio range. One could ignore the extra efficiency of SSB, just getting rid of the carrier heterodynes was worth the effort to make the change, Hi!
Brings back many memories. I was a communications sergeant in the 40th Armored Division in the 1950's. 73 Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of VE3GNO Daniel Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2013 4:30 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Elecraft] High Tech verses Classic Guys, I know is maybe a little bit off topic but I couldn't resist to pass this wonderful video to community, is abt legendary Hallicrafters SCR299, I cannot resist to say quality and performance Made in USA still exist thanks to Elecraft Take a deep breath, take a beer and watch this wonderful moment of history "Voice of Victory 1944" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jps0_2adUvo&feature=player_embedded vy 73 de VE3GNO Daniel ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
