Ron,
The best source of knowledge for questions about NaP3, Com ports, sound
cards, and other related questions can be found on the LP-Pan Yahoo
group. Larry (N8LP) and others are quite responsive. There is also a
lot of helpful information at Larry's website www.telepostinc.com.
Yes, an add-on high end sound card will normally have a lower noise
floor than the ones built into a computer, even if the other specs are
equal.

Don,
Thanks. Good advice. I was mistaken, the KX3 Utility uses COM 6, not COM 3
like I thought. So I got that part working. Now I'm trying to figure out
why both the Utility and NaP3 are only communicating at 4800 baud, instead
of the usual 38400. I have the latest FTDI drivers for the USB Adapter.
On another issues, I was using my notebook's built-in sound card which has
a 48,000 sampling rate at 16 bits. I found the base noise level is much
lower with a Soundblaster sampling at 48,000 and 24 bits. The Soundblaster
can sample at 96,000 rate, but that doesn't seem to be on option on NaP3's
set-up.
Getting there slowly...
