If you mean Ken Kesey, then no, I don't think that's the relevant reference.
Ken Kesey (and the gang of Merry Pranksters) used LSD laced Kool-Aid to
promote communal tripping.
 
The Jonestown example was far darker, a case of blindly following a
misguided trust to oblivion. It was after that incident that "drinking the
Kool-Aid", took on a whole new meaning...
 
It remains a cautionary tale, with a sober lesson that people should think
for themselves.
