Gary and all who offered help: I have no idea what the problem was. However, I unbuilt all the way back to a K3/10, then built it back up. I added the KPA3, and it passed all the RF tests. I added the KRX3, and the subreceiver seems to work, and I still have RF out. That was where it failed the last time.
Now I just have to replace a busted J92 Female on the KRX3 (not needed except for when using a separate receive antenna), and I'll be good to go. I have already requested a few of those from Elecraft. They are pretty delicate, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the others develop intermittent problems at some point. Thanks again for the help, and especially for the excellent support by Elecraft. By the way, I am 70, have terrible reading vision and arthritic thumbs.
