In my opinion, it's because Elecraft is more tuned in to users. Elecraft's owners and many of their staff are active hams. They also directly monitor lists such as this one for user input (and respond accordingly). Elegant simplicity of design focused on real user needs is always a winning combination (e.g. Apple comes to mind).
