I agree with the OHR rigs. I had a 400 for several years, wish I would have kept it, and the receiver was one of the best I have heard on ANY rig. I have a TS-850 here in the shack that is borrowed right now, used to have one, and I still think the OHR was better on CW receive for side rejection and I KNOW the K2 is better for weak signal work. The person that I recently built the K2 for has an Omni 6 and this TS-850 and HUGE aluminum and he has worked more DX since getting the K2 than ever before. It is just because he can hear them now better than ever before. He has no problems being heard. Full size 40 meter yagi at 80 feet and mono banders for the rest of the bands. Full size 30 meter loop hung vertically between the towers and so on. And the killer watt does not hurt.
Jess AE0CW Don't get me wrong, one of these days I will get a K2. Maybe in May, when my youngest daughter graduates from college. :^)= In the meantime I am more than happy with my TS-850, which has a really good receiver, and my OHR 500 and Classic, both which have receivers with very good front ends. For high performance in a protable/small rig it can't be beat. But it is not the ultimate receiver. I suspect that the K3 will be though. :^)= - Dr. Megacycle KK6MC/5 -- James R.
