Well, I just replaced my 12 year old buried feed line with some new
double-shielded RG-8X. Just to test it out, I connected the antenna
system to the KX3. My antenna system consists of 3 trap dipoles: 80/40,
30/17/12 and 20/15/10. I switched to 17 and tuned around. I heard
ZL1BD calling CQ. After a few tries Al came back to me with 100% copy.
I wouldn't exactly call the band wide open. But, that was a very
impressive QSO. For me, after 52 years of hamming - that was a record
breaker.
See? QRP DOES work!
