I thought the same as you about not needing the SVGA, but I got one because of the digital modes. Well, I was blown away by the extra detail of having a monitor. The larger waterfall is a plus, as well.
And, there is much more room to have Tx and Rx windows. I have been waiting for Paul to fix a minor bug that occasionally causes a character to be skipped when transmitting using the keyboard or memories. He is working on it.
