But...those were not *random* call assignments in any sense of the word.  They
were *systematic* sequential call assignments.  I think what you mean is that
those were not licensee-chosen "designer" vanity calls.

I got my current call through the systematic sequential assignment process 
33 years ago, after suffering 13 years with my original sequentially-assigned
call of WA5WGJ.  I do not propose to ever change my current call, regardless
of my permanent location.

However, I believe there remains a very valid and useful application of the
traditional "/#" for any operation that is away from one's licensed location.
