A number of customers have now made this modification to their KX3 (thanks for the feedback). Most have found that the mod successfully eliminated the noise or knocked it down to insignificant levels on all bands.
A few have found that it helped only on some bands, or not as much as expected. This could be because the noise was already near the lowest level obtainable with the modification. In any event, the firmware noise-reduction methods mentioned in the document may still be required on some bands, on some KX3s. In answer to a couple of questions we've received: The modification done at the factory, and the easier field-modification described in the document, are absolutely identical in effect. We tested both methods on numerous KX3s. In addition to the hardware modification, we're continuing to experiment with improvements to the VFO NR algorithm available in the menu.
