Works as expected now! This is problem is now resolved by a more serious reseating of the KXBC3 board (as is suggested in the manual). Also, kit builders should take care with the wire routing. Elecraft has certainly got a jewel here. They rock! And, many thanks to Rich, AC7, for responding.
