I had a similar thing happen recently, and resolved it with a bit of help from Elecraft support. The problem is that the audio amplifier when using the internal speaker can draw too much current due to high audio levels. In my case I had the monitor level too high, so the key beeps caused HI CUR on occasion. Solutions include turn down the levels some, use external amplified speakers or headset.
