I just confirmed that the opposite-sideband image is way down. I believe John 
was hearing the effect of the notch at 1500 Hz, which is a characteristic of 
Weaver demodulation. When you inject a carrier and sweep through the SSB 
passband, the existence of the notch can make it appear that you're hearing 
both desired and image signals -- but what you're really hearing is just the 
tone at different pitches on either side of the notch.
