I think I'm the Dave that Ed referred to in his email. Like David (GM4JJJ)
I'm looking forward to the 2M transverter option and, again like David, am
getting the hang of the KX3 by using it on HF. So far, I've done some
listening and have made one CW contact, with another FISTS member, so my
FISTS score is now up to 4 members worked!
One thing I forgot to consider when I bought the KX3 and went for the
paddles rather than the microphone is that, when I eventually marry it up to
the 24GHz transverter, I will then need a microphone for the few people on
microwaves who don't use CW. That is actually, despite what many people who
are not on the SHF bands might believe, quite a small number. However, for
general chatting, like on 10GHz whilst up in Scotland last year, it was
useful to have a microphone. :-) I may opt to butcher an old microphone
from a VHF/UHF Yaesu radio that broke many years ago, but I decided to keep
the microphone in case it 'came in handy' at some point
Anyway, there are a couple of activity periods/contests on UHF and SHF in
the UK and Europe this weekend, so the TS2000X will probably get more use
than the KX3 for a couple of days.

Ed,
Yes I do look forward to the 2m module for the KX3. At least I will have
some time to play around with the radio on shortwave before then, once I
get some antennas that is. I have been QRT for a number of years and this
is me getting started again.
Hope my email is in plain enough text for the reflector now, have moved
over to another mail client on the iPad.

Dave is another microwaver who is trying out the KX3 as new IF for mw
work. He and I both waiting for the 2M module which is the most popular
mw IF. The current de facto standard IF radio for mw is the FT-817. I
wrote an article for the MUD conference last year showing the application
of the KX3-2M as the new "best" IF radio. Time will tell.
