When you activate split mode, the SPLIT indicator on the front panel illuminates. If the SUB indicator is not illuminated (just to the left of SPLIT) press the SUB button to activate the feature. I assume you have configured the SUB AF control to your liking (NORMAL vs BALANCE) and adjusted it accordingly.
