Lloyd,

Set the jumpers in the XV222 for the anticipated drive power - whether that be 5 watts from the high power K2 output or 1 mW from the K60XV outputs. Set the K2 TRNx to correspond to those settings.

First set the PA bias as indicated in the manual - 20 mV indicated across TP3 and TP4.

Then select the TRNx band that you will use (set the DIP switch in the XV222 to the same TRNx selection), Then do a TUNE on the K2. The power should be as set in the K2 menu and it will provide a constant carrier to the XV222. The K2 Power knob may require adjustment because the power setting in the K2 menu is the maximum power that will be sent to the XV222.

With the K2 power set to what you will use, adjust the Input Attenuator pot in the XV222 to provide some readable voltage at TP5 and then adjust the inductors for an increase in that voltage. If the voltage becomes too high (over 10 volts), reduce the Input Attenuator to bring it down to a decent level and continue peaking the inductors for the maximum RF voltage at TP5.

After peaking the inductors (go through them at least 3 times because they interact), then set the Input Attenuator to produce 20 watts on your external wattmeter and the adjust the Power Calibrate pot to indicate 20 watts on the LEDs.

Give the XV222 adequate cooling time between these steps. Feel the underside of he transverter - warm is OK, but too hot to hold your finger on it for more than 30 seconds is too hot.

At this point, the peaking and power calibration procedure should be complete - time to operate.

I just finished building the XV222 and at Part VI - Filter Alignment in the
manual. Being a new user to the K2 I am not sure how to generate a
constant signal (carrier) so I can tweek the coils.
