Burke,

Connect the 'PHONES' jack on the KX3 to the soundcard LINE IN jack with a standard 3.5mm stereo plug on each end cable. Set the soundcard Line In recording level to about half scale. Note, Windows 7 mutes Line In by default, other OS versions may do so as well, that is a good item to check in your computer. After that is done, set the AF Gain on the KX3 to a level that produces a light blue background on the waterfall. That level will be a low value.

If you find a lot of noise on the waterfall, it may be that you have to add galvanic isolation (transformers) between the KX3 and the soundcard. Before doing that, try bonding the KX3 to the computer with a heavy conductor or braid - if it works, great, but if not resort to the transformers. in the audio lines.

I am trying in vain to get my KX3 connected correctly to the computer with

I have the serial cable from AC1 to the serial port and the rig appears to
interface with software. The frequency changes and I can click transmit and the
radio goes into transmit.

However, nothing shows on the waterfall and I am not sure anything is actually
transmitting.

Does anyone have "the definitive guide" to connecting the rest of the cables??

It looks like the phone and mic cables are where the problem is.

I am just using the built in sound card, not PCI based. Could that be it?
There is a mic jack and two speaker jacks on the computer.

Help would be appreciated!
