I've used a kx3 as the third radio in a so3r configuration.  I was low power 
but did not
see any additional issues with using a kx3 rather than a k3.  You may find it 
necessary 
to use the 8 kHz offset to reduce the zero if bleed through if you don't have 
enough 
inter band isolation.
