I, too, disliked it when the transition to AT-style keyboards, with all of the function keys along the top, was made. Unfortunately, after a while, my old original keyboard, and my wife's, gave out and we had to adjust.

My first professional programming jobs involved using the good-old IBM 3278 terminals. However, failing to turn off the tactile click was not a good way to make friends in a programming shop.
It also was the mark of a newbie.
