Some time ago, I had a K1 that needed a repair, including the backlight. Instead of ordering a part from Elecraft, I was able to use two sub-mini yellow LEDs that I had, and positioned them so they illuminated the edge of the original diffuser. The same technique could be applied to the K2.
I have since sold that K1 along. So...
