Thanks, Phil, and all others who replied.  Borrowing a Windows laptop
wasn¹t easy but it worked; after which I went back at it with the Mac.  At
that point the OS X - based Utility recognized MCU 1.67, which was of
course resident in the KAT-500 by then, courtesy of Windows.  I have no
explanation for why it failed the first N times.  Probably operator error.
 Or a quantum tunnel into a previous time.  In any case, it¹s nice to have
the reflector and friends when you need it.  Tnx,
