Hi all, The KX3 is pretty large as HTs go, but it can be used hand-held in a pinch, even while walking. The latter is also known as pedestrian mobile or /PM. A sub-genre of /PM is HF pack, which typically involves a backpack, larger battery, and longer antennas.
Personally, I prefer casual HT-style operation over HF pack. On any band other than 2 meters I use a dragged counterpoise wire (13' long, and sturdy, lest it get stomped on). This can reduce transmit losses by some 10-20 dB depending on the band and the type of antenna employed. Anyone else making /PM QSOs with the KX3? If so, please let us know what worked well, and what features might be improved in the future. Who did you work? A summary of bands, modes, power levels, elevation, terrain, etc. would be of interest. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [email protected]
