The K3 Frequency memory editor should set the RS232 parameters itself, so your 
setting of 8N2 shouldn't matter. We use 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.  The 
timeout is fairly long. I set my K3 for 38400 bit/s and use an FTDI chipset USB 
to serial adapter like a KUSB with current drivers.
