The shaft of the variable cap is an odd size (3/16"?) and so it helps to have access to a lathe to make a custom adapter. But it can be done a number of ways. Next you make a front panel and mount the Command set chassis behind it with spacers - about 3/4 inch. New dial is a disk of metal. plastic or even cardboard. A window with a bit of Plexiglas lets you see the dial, and a few dial lamps to light it up are a nice touch.
