Beware of tin whiskers!

  Lead-free  generally  translates to "pure tin".  If you do not want to
  risk tin whisker growth then you should solder dip or re-tin the leads
  of such devices with eutectic solder.

  No.
  If  you're  used to SMDs with lead plating, though, you'll notice that
  it  takes  a  very small fraction of a second longer for the solder to
  flow onto lead-free parts.
