Connection power is only needed for some RS-232 to TTL or CI-V
converters that require "interface power" and do not provide an
external power supply.  Those interfaces are generally used only
for Icom and older Yaesu/Kenwood radios and are certainly not
applicable to the K2 or K3 which use simple three wire RS-232
(bipolar voltage) interfaces.
