The K3 has a separate 1/4" mono jack for external keys but I agree, when the
KX3's external (Key1) jack is set to HAND it would be nice to be able to use
keys with a mono plug. I built an adapter cable with an eighth inch stereo
right angle plug on one end and a 1/4" inline mono jack on the other end so I
could plug in the same bug that I usually have plugged into the K3's external
key jack.

As it is now if you don't use a stereo plug, the rig keys as soon as you plug
in the 1/8" mono plug.
