Make sure you have the correct Mic selected, and that it's configured properly. Mic inputs are on the front and rear panel. The front panel socket is an 8-pin Foster type, and the rear is a 3.5mm stereo-type jack.
If you have the hand mic plugged into the front panel, make sure the BIAS setting is correct.
