Bill,
You are entirely correct, the K3 'as-is' is a great transceiver. Add the
new synthesizer(s) and you will have most of the performance improvement
available.
Look at the K3S FAQ for a good deal of additional information when
considering whether to upgrade or switch to the K3S - or to keep your K3
as it is now.
