You might not do that if you lived in W6, where, thanks to Enron, the cost of power is MUCH higher than in most of the US. In Chicago, my worst case differential cost of power was about $0.13/kWh; here in CA, it's in the range of $0.36/kWh. In Chicago, an Astron ran 24/7. In CA, I use the quietest, most efficient switcher I can find, supplementing it with solar panels during the summer months.
