Darwin, I use a deep discharge battery I bought from Wal=Mart and put a smart trickle charger, such as the Battery Minder to keep it charged. This provides an excellent stable voltage that is essentially isolated from commercial power and you also are all set for emergency, if needed. I've used this setup for about a year now, and I love it. Be sure to use a "smart" charger, because your battery will last much longer. I've read where batteries have lasted for years this way.
