Eric, That is indeed strange. Go to the secondary menu and see if Squelch might be turned on. I can't think of another reason at the moment.

When those parts of the menu are active, receive audio can be heard. When one exists the menus, the audio falls off, and the s-meter indicates no apparent RF input.
