The P3 and the K3 should be in reasonable agreement when measuring the amplitude of a CW signal, but not when measuring SSB or other signals that are not concentrated at a single frequency like CW.

The reason is that each display point on the P3 shows only the portion of the signal power that is on that frequency. You can see the same effect on the K3 if you narrow the bandwidth down to 50 Hz - the signal will show several S units lower.

This is explained in the P3 Owner's Manual in the section "How to Set Up and Interpret the P3 Display".

I recently installed the SVGA option in my P3 and noticed that the
S-Meter scales on the P3 and SVGA do not match the S-Meter scales on the
K3S radio. I probably paid no attention to this before. With the SVGA
and a large monitor it is much more noticeable.

Hence when I have a signal that is a S-20 (Receive) on the K3S meter,
the P3 and SVGA only show the signal as a S3.

I am sure there is a way to get them to match in the menu settings?

Thanks, Irwin KD3TB
