Another good solution is LiFePO4 batteries, which have a relatively flatter discharge curve than Lead-Acid, and that discharge curve is much closer to 13V for LiFePO4 than 11.5V for Lead Acid. Yes, they're more expensive to buy, but they last a lot longer.
