Harry, Try a test - move the K2 4 to 5 feet away from anything that could possibly contain a transformer and see if the 'modulation' goes away. If that eliminates the modulation, you can either rearrange the shack so the transformer fields are not close to the K2 or you can add the VCOSHLDKT available from Elecraft.
