I upgraded my computer to MacOS High Sierra and found it could not contact the K3. The K3 utility failed, RUMlogNG failed, and wsjt-x failed. I found the following by robertklep on the web:

What seems to have worked for me is actually removing the FTDI driver (/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext), after finding that Apple ships an FTDI driver with the OS itself (/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBFTDI.kext).

I moved the driver out of /Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext and things started working again.
