I was experiencing broadband noise on the spectrum generated from my RX I/Q port when the KX 3 ACC port was connected via USB to my laptop. I tried grounding, different USB adapters and cables, and ferrite toroids without any success. All the gear is powered by battery.
I suspected a ground loop as the noise was uniformly distributed around the tuned frequency. I ordered an Adafruit part number 2107 USB Isolator for $35 from Adafruit.com. This board isolates both the power and data on the USB connection to eliminate ground loop problems which can plague USB test equipment as well as ham gear. Plugging it between the laptop and the ACC port USB cable removed the noise completely. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [email protected]
