Thank you Don. I did not pick up on the fact that the KXPA100 passes
control and data signals through the amplifier to the attached radio
(KX2/KX3) when I read through it the first couple of times.

Those cables have nothing to do with the audio in and out for
soundcard data modes, but will convey frequency and other data between
