The numeric value is a relative indication generated by the math we use in our algorithm; it’s not actually an attempt to quantify compression in dB. Multiple factors including power level, ALC level, and mic gain setting are taken into account. I’ll dig up the full details of the implementation when I get a chance.
Meanwhile (anecdotally): at any setting the compression is very clean, and at the high end it greatly increases the “punchiness” of the signal.
