The Beverage on Ground is not new at all, Beverage's experimental Wave Antenna -- which came to be known as the Beverage Antenna -- w as a pair of insulated wires two miles long laid on the ground and fed into a phasing and balancing network, a progenitor of DX Engineering's NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing System.
