The Elecraft site states the new Synthesizer KSYN3A is required to modify the original KBPF3 to KBPF3A specifications. However, Fred Cady's book, "Upgrading the Elecraft K3 with K3s Components" does not make this requirement for the KBPF3 to 3A modification.
Why does Elecraft require the KSYN3A and Fred Cady not require it for this band pass filter mod?
